Blog Carnivals
By LifeIsRisky | April 26, 2007
Have you ever heard of a Blog Carnival? No, well then sit back and learn about a really interesting way to not only increase your readership but your exposure as well. Have your attention now don’t I? Good because I bet by the time you get through this article you will have all sorts of ideas for finding or starting your own carnivals and getting all the associated benefits.
Now first off, what exactly is a Blog Carnival? According to Wikipedia.Org a blog carnival is:
A Blog Carnival is a type of blog event. It is similar to a magazine, in that it is dedicated to a particular topic, and is published on a regular schedule, often weekly or monthly. Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of a blog article that contains permalinks links to other blog articles on the particular topic.
In easy speak, a blog carnival is normally organized by a single person and can have one host blog or it can travel from one blog to another with different hosts. Some carnivals have very large following leading to communities around the organization, hosting and content submissions for the carnival.
Ok sounds like a neat idea but why would I want to contribute to a carnival? I mean I can just post the article on my own blog right? Well yes you can, and in reality that is what you do. Most carnivals submissions are actually articles you have hosted on your own site, and you submit the link or a copy to the carnival. Sometimes it is unique content that only appears in the carnival. Once it is submitted the article is it either paraphrased or published whole depending on the carnival organization.
Now as to why you would contribute that is really simple. When it comes right down to it blog carnivals are about content and traffic. The people who submit articles to the carnival usually see an increase in traffic and links when their articles are combined into the latest edition and posted on the host site. Increased traffic leads to increased exposure which leads to increased traffic, etc.
Alright I am convinced. Where do I find a blog carnival to participate in? At BlogCarnival.Com of course! Actually they do have the most current listing of blog carnivals I could find. Plus they allow you to organize and run your own blog carnival rather easily. I am definitely going to set one up there as soon as I narrow down my topic.
If you are looking for a bit of a different way to increase your readership and get some fresh new content, then you might want to check out blog carnivals. If you do, I would really love to hear about it either here or at LifeIsRisky. Good luck and thanks so much to my buddy Bob for letting me be a guest author!
