(gb) A Spotlight On Some Useful Sites
By Mark | May 20, 2007
Another blog I run is about web safety. It’s geared toward families with an emphasis toward parental awareness about the Web. Today I’m beginning a new series called FWW Spotlight. I’ll highlight sites, products, or services meant for online protection, increased productivity, family entertainment..basically, whatever I think parents and their families can benefit from.
Kephyr: The file database on this site can help answer the question, “What does this file that’s running in the background actually do on my computer?” It currently has 13,400+ files in its database. So if you’re curious to know if a file should really be running on your computer, then check this one out.
Plaxo: If you’ve been online as long as I have, then you’ve quite likely come across this valuable service. I have over 3,300 contacts in my Outlook database and I would literally pass out if I ever lost them. Storing them online with Plaxo not only serves as a backup, but it also synchronizes those contacts between my home and office computers. Calendar events, tasks and notes can also be synchronized. Keeping current contact information with my contacts becomes less of a burden because if they’re also Plaxo members, we both can receive updated information from the other. It has a paid version, but the free one is just fine for me.
Common Sense Media: What a great tool to add to the parent toolbox. This site covers TV and movie reviews, parenting tips, and more of what a family needs to be aware of.

Hey Bob! Those are nice sites… I decided not to email you about this after all.
So I’m doing a Blog Bang project. You can read about it here: http://neonscent.com/blog/2007/05/20/blog-bang-blogging-project-need-participants/

I’m glad you liked the information I provided. Looks like all those hours of browsing the Web late at night are paying off.
