(gb)Which Next Generation Console Should I choose?
By Michael Sherlock | June 26, 2007
I know, I know. This is not a gaming website. However, I feel that even though this is not a gaming website gaming affects everyone. If you really don’t like gaming, don’t read this, otherwise, enjoy.
With the wii selling better than ever, the PS3 losing it’s cheaper option and xbox 360 just hanging in their, it’s a nightmare for anyone trying to purchase a console. All of these consoles however I feel are geared to different people and tastes. I currently, not at time of post, have a wii but don’t let that make you feel as if the article is biased. *
The Wii is aimed towards having fun, affordability, and simplicity. With it’s small sleek design it can fit into almost any set-up and with the lowest price point of any console, $250, it can fit in to almost any gamers budget. Plus you forget about its revolutionary controller. Unfortunately though, like the PS3, there aren’t that many good games available. The Xbox 360 is aimed towards game selection and online play. By game selection I mean that no matter what genre you play, you can enjoy it on the 360. For an additional charge of $199, a 360 can play HD-DVD’s which is a great and relatively cheap way to enter into the next generation of media players. Plus the domination of Xbox live for online play won’t be beat in this generation unless Sony or Nintendo do something huge. The Playstation3 is aimed toward Power. Powered by the Cell CPU and RSX GPU plus a built-in Blue-Ray player, this machine is a power house. The PS3 is not meant to be taken halfheartedly as the only model currently available in the US is the 60gb $599 model. Of you course you get blue-ray and all those nice goodies but come on, a fucken computer cost that much. Don’t count on the six-axis controller though as it’s not only un-fun to use but extremely hard also.

*Although at the time of post I didn’t have any of these consoles, on multiple occasion I traveled to friends house’s and played these three consoles for hours on end. Basically, I know what I’m talking about.

I think you should go with the Wii. Looks like the best bang for the buck, and I’ve heard many good things about it.

Like I said, I have a Wii. It’s a great system to have, for bragging and playing, but once you get over wii sports, actually takes a while, there are really no good games out. Eventually there will be but I’m pissed Mario Party 8 sucked, I was hoping it would finally deliver that good game I was looking for.
My advice, wait for games or pull the trigger for bragging rights.

I just bought the Wii yesterday. It’s an awesome system, but like you said I don’t think there are any good games on it yet.

I think the wii will be really rocking in a yea, but hopefully less, from now when there are several good games available and when we can see some online play. All Wii’s ship with wifi for no extra cost so online play, I feel, for most games is in the works. No evidence to back that up besides the built the in wifi though so nothing it set in stone.
