Google Analytics Makeover
By admin | May 17, 2007
Google has changed the look and feel of their analytics website. They have created some great new features which improve user experience and it all looks very slick.
An email earlier today listed the biggest changes:
*What is new?* In the new version, your reports have been redesigned for clarity, greater visibility of important metrics, and ease of use. Here are just a few of the features you’ll
notice:- Email and export reports: Schedule or send ad-hoc
personalized report emails and export reports in PDF format.- Custom Dashboard: No more digging through reports. Put all
the information you need on a custom dashboard that you can
email to others.- Trend and Over-time Graph: Compare time periods and select
date ranges without losing sight of long term trends.- Contextual help tips: Context sensitive Help and Conversion
University tips are available from every report.
I have been signed up with Google analytics for a little while now but never really use them since I utilize awstats on my server. The numbers shows by Google are lower than what my statistics software reports. Another tool I use to monitor traffic is the mybloglog.com feature (not free, $3,00 per month). Once again, those numbers are different form both my local software stats and the Google analytics stats.
Combining these three I do get a pretty good idea of what’s going on though.

I discovered the new beta for Google Analytics a week or so ago and I do think it’s a definite step up but it came a little too late. I’m afraid that I got an invite to a beta of Reinvigorate (reinvigorate.net) a couple of weeks ago and it’s just so good that I’m thinking of uninstalling the Analytics string in my template.
The absolutely best thing about Reinvigorate is that it’s all realtime data. You can even see what people are browsing on your site right now - this very second. Analytics may have a slightly more detailed set of stats but Reinvigorate has everything that I need and the immediacy of it just works for me so much more. So although I have been a long time user of Google Analytics, I think I may have found a nicer partner, sorry Google.

I’m having a great time with reinvigorate.net– but I haven’t figured out how to give my visitors “context names”… FunnyVideoClips– if you could help out with that, I would be greatly appreciative.

Lucy, I haven’t set these up yet. After looking at their instructions it does seem a little too cryptic. What I want to know is how they tie the username to the visitor. Do they go off IP address or a combination of different factors?
I wish I could help but I havent’t really played with adding the additional script. Sorry.

FunnyVideoClips– if you wouldn’t mind emailing via my blog…. I have a follow up question, that perhaps you might be able to help me with. But I don’t want to use up more of Bob’s comment space… (Sorry Bob, but I don’t know how else to reach FunnyVideoClips.)
best
Lucy
