Have You ViraLinked Today?

By admin | June 6, 2007

Andy invited me weeks ago to participate in this but at the time I was too busy to really look into this meme. Seems it’s taking the blogosphere by storm so I can’t stay behind anymore :)

“This concept was originated by Andy Coates and it is quite different from what you may have previously seen. You can read the full details at Read more details on Andy’s Site and participate by copying and pasting information below to your site”:

———copy and paste the Viralink and instructions below this line———

Below is a matrix of 120 stars, I have already added a link to my blog onto one of the stars, all you need to do is copy and paste the grid into your blog or website and add your own link to one of the other spare stars, and tell others to do the same! You also may want to change or edit the first few paragraphs, and the last paragraph to suit your blogging style.

Viralink

When I receive a ping back once you have added the Viralink to your site I will add your link to this grid, and each person who copies the grid from this blog will also link to your site!

Rules
No Porn Sites
One link per person only! (do not hog the viralink!)
DO NOT change or tamper with other individual url’s
Enjoy!

Here are how the numbers add up, I will use the term saturation to describe the spread of the Viralink with Zero being your blog 1 being 1 link down, 2 being 2 links down and so on.

Saturation - Backlinks

0 - 0
1 - 3
2 - 12
3 - 39
4 - 93
5 - 336
6 - 1065
7 - 3252
8 - 9813
9 - 29,496
10 - 88,545

The above numbers rely on 3 people copying and pasting the Viralink onto their blog and that being replicated 3 times continuously 10 times. The numbers are quite staggering, there are 119 spaces left on the Viralink from this page and I expect that there will be allot of clones which begin to pop up. The best strategy with this is to start early and tell all of your blog and online friends!

You may be wondering what happens if you are at the end of the chain when the Viralink is full ? What would be the benefit to me? Well there is no reason why you can’t add another line of dots to the bottom and keep the process going. You also can start another form, but please retain a link to this site.

Go Viralink!

    Hi Bob and all,

I have improved Andy’s Viralink idea by coming up with a way to use your anchor text of choice.
This should go just as viral but you will benefit from anchor text instead of just a star *. Please
    check my post “Improving
your ranking and Google PR with ViralTags”.

SwollenPickles, you need to empty your inbox, I keep gettting bounces because your mailbox is full.
Founders Cafe, I think that if you start using anchor text, it defeats the purpose of this meme and it will become just another link spam post.

I jumped on the Viralink bandwagon about 10 days ago and it’s turned out to be the link that keeps on giving. While ‘*’ may not be the best anchor text it’s brought me some traffic and helped my rankings.

To The Thinking Blog: I think promoting Viralink is a reader service because lots of Bob’s readers are probably bloggers too and they can use it to boost their own traffic.

Bob, help me understand the logic that you got on the viralinks train with * but you have a problem with anchor text?

These two variations are to help build links and readers hopefully, and using anchor text is better than using *. I think you got on the viralinks train two weeks after it got started … which resulted in missing a lot of backlinks. THis could be an opportunity to start fresh I guess, since you ultimately did get on.

If you do have a legitimate reasonng then I would appreciate if you share it with us :D Anyway, since I started it last night, I’ve gotten an increase of 30 authority in Technorati I believe. Nice blog you got here by the way :)

Bugger, thanks Bob. My laptop is stuffed and in the shop getting repaired so I can’t clean it out until I get that back.

  23. Bob Says:
    June 8th, 2007 at 9:39 am

Founders Cafe, My reasoning is simple, perhaps hypocrite even. I feel that using a * doesn’t look like another spam link and with this meme I’m more inclined to click a random * instead of someone’s anchor text. That’s as far as my “legitimate” reasoning goes on this one :)

    SwollenPickles, maybe login to webmail?

  24. Founders Cafe Says:
    June 9th, 2007 at 1:24 am

Fair enough Bob. I’ve actually discovered some really nice blogs through this tagging train because everytime I get a ping I go and visit that blog. Some I must say are very interesting and I’ve been visiting since.

I hope this same reasoning will also help others discover mine and everyone that’s involved. Mine is a fairly new blog but with unique content you don’t see around much. I am blogging candidly and in real time on my triumphs and struggles launching an Internet Startup on a shoestring budget, and I will try to start generate some revenue from my blog to see if it can help fund a small part of it. Anyways hope to see you visit more often. I will be back here as it’s an interesting blog.

    Hi Bob,

I have mailed you twice, but go tot no reply.

Just to let you know that since a week now I added ViraLinks to a couple of my blogs, NEWS & RIFLESSIONI and A Copywriter’s Blues. The matrix displays on the sidebar. So, if you don’t mind adding me, I’ll also fave you on Techorati as soon as I see your linkback.

And, as soon as I get reaction from all links I’mready for Viral Tags. :)

    Cheers
