Is this Asking Too Much Money?
By admin | April 26, 2007
-Update- Perhaps I should start to consider selling too afterall…

My blog is worth $64,357.56.
How much is your blog worth?
Mitchell Harper, author of the blog on HarpzOn.com is selling his blog because he’s busy with other stuff. The bidding starts at $5,000 USD which is a bit overpriced if you ask me.
Why? My thoughts:
- The only thing you will get is the domain name, which isn’t very usable for any product branding really.
- The domain has 734 back links from 214 blogs on Technorati and 2,160 back links on Yahoo (both +1 after this post) However you are not getting the content, which will render these figures useless since the SE data is not accurate anymore. The linked content is missing. And the Alexa rank he gives is the one week average. Not the actual current figure.
Obviously something is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it and I wish Mitchell all the luck in the world with his auction.
And just a small observation Mitchell; You might want to take out the last line in that post since I don’t see the use of signing up to your RSS feed anymore
Don`t want to miss a thing? Just subscribe to the full RSS feed :)!

I completely and utterly agree this is paying way to much. These blogs can demand prices based on how much traffic you are going to get by having the domain. But you know, this is just a head start really. If anyone wants to put in the effort to grow their blog, they can do so with their own hard work and not spending $5,000.
I could quick my job for a month and blog full time every day and get the same benefit and more.
If it included the content I still wouldn’t pay it. Show me the financial figures and then you can do the math. If it can’t pay for itself in the year, it ain’t worth it.

Sometimes I wonder if bloggers are blogging and building up their success just to sell their blogs. This is akin to playing with the hearts of faithful readers, or loyalty, which is something I don’t really approve of. Still, that’s his blog.

I was so disappointed as I was following his blog and then all of a sudden, he just packed his bags and left. He could have at least built up towards leaving - giving hints. I feel cheated for some reason. And I believe he just wanted to grab a quick buck. As if anyone in their right mind would pay the amount he wants. It’s ridiculous.

It was a bit of an abrubt stop. If it were me, I’d consider having someone else managing the blog untill I had time again to do it myself for example. this just leaves readers with an empty feeling.
