Look what Intel got me for my Birthday!

By admin | March 13, 2007

“We have been told by sources that the long-awaited successor to the current Napa platform, Santa Rosa, is being officially unveiled on the 9th of May 2007. The new mobile platform Santa Rosa features, GM965 and PM965 Express chipset, enhanced 800 MHz FSB. For GM965, it supports Direct X 9.0c and OpenGL 1.0; together with Dynamic Video Memory Technology 4.0, it can share up to 256 MB system memory to the IGP. According to an internal document from Intel, GM965 is approximately 50% faster than the previous 945GM, supporting resolution up to 2048 x 1536.”

“In order to separate the market segment between the current Napa Refresh and the upcoming Santa Rosa, Intel would only make new Socket P processors be supported in the new platform. On the day of release, Intel Core 2 Duo T7000/L7000 family will also be officially released together for this platform.”

“The first release of Socket P processors includes standard T7100, T7300, T7500, and T7700 and Low Voltage L7500, and L7300. Their prices are set even cheaper than the Socket M models in similar speed. Detailed prices are listed below.” “In addition, the previous plan on WWAN 1965HSD with Nokia has been called off. It’s originally planned to support 2.5G (Edge) and 3G (CDMA-2000/WCDMA). 2.5G supports up to 348Kbps while 3G supports up to 2.4Mbps. As SIM provides Authentication, Authorization and Accouting service for WWAN, Intel planed to apply SIM Card into the Santa Rosa platform to improve the security in the wireless network. Since the technology is a bit similar to HSDPA, our sources told Intel may merge WiMAX with HSDPA, resulting in giving up WWAN 1965HSD, codenamed Windigo.”

Guess I’ll be holding off selling my macbook core duo till May.
