Nofollow Keyword Commentators
By admin | May 4, 2007
I’m not sure what to think about the latest trend where people leave comments on a blog and use keywords as their name like “Cheap Custom Content, monetize your blog, Linux Operating System“. Ok, this is done purely for SERP benefits and will probably work. But isn’t it like selling your soul to the devil?
A name to a comment is like a face to a person. When I see that someone called “Collect Airmiles Faster” left a comment somewhere, I’d not even look at it assuming it was Spam. Also I would start to wonder if the blogowner would care enough about his or her readers to keep them away from unwanted Spam.
Sure, it’s great to get comments on your blog and I must say I enjoy the sound of my mail app every time it beeps, telling me there is a new comment waiting for me. But I think that the people who use traffic keywords as their handle’s, will just comment-spam your blog until they get into the top commentators list. I’d rather have 1 genuine comment by someone called John than 20 by someone called “Website Revenues“.
A few of the bigger blogs seem to allow this kind of comment spam but I wonder why. Is this because;
- a) They don’t care what people say.
- b) They are willing to give these people a shot at growing their own business.
- c) They benefit in some sort of way from these people
For a few days I had the top commentators plugin running but as soon as people noticed this I got a few comments from keyword comment parasites and I deactivated the feature.
I support the dofollow movement because I feel this is a more genuine and personal process. What are your thoughts on this?

hi bob,
i submited your link in linkbox but you must place the linkbox in your template too, for example(in the end of your template code)
the linkbox will give only a small space of your site so don’t worry.you can edit the linkbox code too for example the size of it.
thanks for using our linkbox

Bob I couldn’t agree more. I try and remove all such spam, because that really is what it amounts to. I know there are all sorts of reasons why people agree to such “handles” but like you, I simply disregard what they are saying, on topic or not. Perhaps that is snobish of me, to deny them that link building avenue but there you have it.
The DoFollow movement is a much better way to build links and the reach of your blog. Glad you support it. I will have to add you to DoFollow Pingback Challenge

Being in favor of the dofollow crowd, I installed the WP plugin on my blogs. However, I also have every comment moderated, so unless that becomes a job in itself, I’ll happily keep the plugin going and trash anything that even has a hint of spam on it.

Oh, speaking of things unwanted, I just took a look at the MBL recenter readers list. There’s what appears to be a couple getting a “little friendly”, shall we say? It’s a shame that people resort to such tactics at getting noticed.

LOL.
Actually, no, but it reminds of me all the “bouncing” I’ve seen on some of these widgets. Which, btw, seems to have died down lately. I don’t know…call me old-fashioned.
