Selling My MacBook For $10

By admin | June 24, 2007

Update 4: Another $10 ticket was bought directly via paypal.
Update 3: Someone just paid for two more tickets via PayPal. It seems the widget on the right shows up in Dutch for some of you. I’ve mailed chipin and paypal to see if I can get this resolved. 294 tickets available.

Update 2: I have just sold 2 tickets offline to a co-worker. 296 tickets available. the chipin only has to go to $2980 now.

Update 1: After some thought I have decided to make the raffle more interesting. I’m introducing a second prize: A Nintendo Wii with 4 games, two remotes and a nunchuck. Your chances just doubled up and now it’s a 1 in 150 that you will get a macbook or a nintendo Wii for just $10!

winAs some of you know, I currently live my online life mainly through my trustworthy macbook. I absolutely love the speed, reliability and easy of traveling with it. The coolness factor and handy remote control for FrontRow aren’t bad either :) (The remote is great when you hook up the notebook to your TV set!)
My online activities have grown beyond her capabilities however. Photoshop, multiple browsers, Coda, Mail, Adium, iTunes, iPhoto, Azureus and a terminal are just a few of the things I have open pretty much all of the time. My screen is too small for serious photoshop editing and I need a higher resolution for Coda. And I’m planning on running Windows with Parallels.
Macbook
After drooling for hours over the macbook pro pages on Apple.com I decided I need to upgrade from my current configuration. From a white Macbook with Intel Core Duo 2GHZ, 13″ Glossy Widescreen, 1GB DDR2, 80GB hdd, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth to a Macbook Pro 17″.

Sure, I could sell the macbook with the cool second skin, exclusive crumpler bag and amazing mighty mouse to someone for around $1000 but why not give it away to someone for just $10? That’s right, I’m a nice guy. I will sell you my current macbook and a permanent link on one of my PR5 posts for just $10!
Crumpler bag
What’s the catch? - Well, because I’m such a nice guy, I’m making this offer not just to you but to 299 other people too. Problem is I only have one macbook, bag and mighty mouse to sell :)
You might have guessed; It’s a raffle. With just $10 you buy one of 300 tickets to win this fantastic laptop or Nintendo Wii.

Everytime one of you uses the Chipin widget in the sidebar and donates $10 or a multiple of that, I will note the email address on the paypal payment details. This will be your ticket for the raffle! I don’t think I can make it any simpler. To at least give you something concrete for your $10, I’ll give you a permanent linkback from one of my inner PageRank 5 posts. You can find the PR5 links here: http://www.johncow.com/links.txt

The raffle ends on the first of January 2008, or when I have sold all 300 tickets. If for some reason I don’t make the $3000 I need by January 1st, I will pick a random name and share all the money I made 50/50. How’s that for a great deal?
Needles to say, the sooner I sell the 300 tickets, the sooner you could be the lucky winner. So spread the word to your friends and family. Your chance is 1 in 300 to win back your $10×100! Oh, and don’t worry about the shipping costs. I’ll cover those, wordwide :)

Payment is only valid if done through the chipin widget on the sidebar!

Steph, you make it sound so negative :) Is that how you talk to the shopkeeper where you buy your lotto tickets too ?
I’m offering my macbook for $10 and obviously you missed the humor in my nice guy post. As for the $0 donation, this raffle just started yesterday, what did you expect? Besides, with that $10 you get a permanent PR5 linkback which is worth way more than what ou have to pay.
And I don’t understand what you mean by safe. You can ask the winners of all my previous contests if I delivered what I promised.
