Selling My MacBook For $10
By admin | June 24, 2007
Update 4: Another $10 ticket was bought directly via paypal.
Update 3: Someone just paid for two more tickets via PayPal. It seems the widget on the right shows up in Dutch for some of you. I’ve mailed chipin and paypal to see if I can get this resolved. 294 tickets available.
Update 2: I have just sold 2 tickets offline to a co-worker. 296 tickets available. the chipin only has to go to $2980 now.
Update 1: After some thought I have decided to make the raffle more interesting. I’m introducing a second prize: A Nintendo Wii with 4 games, two remotes and a nunchuck. Your chances just doubled up and now it’s a 1 in 150 that you will get a macbook or a nintendo Wii for just $10!
As some of you know, I currently live my online life mainly through my trustworthy macbook. I absolutely love the speed, reliability and easy of traveling with it. The coolness factor and handy remote control for FrontRow aren’t bad either
(The remote is great when you hook up the notebook to your TV set!)
My online activities have grown beyond her capabilities however. Photoshop, multiple browsers, Coda, Mail, Adium, iTunes, iPhoto, Azureus and a terminal are just a few of the things I have open pretty much all of the time. My screen is too small for serious photoshop editing and I need a higher resolution for Coda. And I’m planning on running Windows with Parallels.

After drooling for hours over the macbook pro pages on Apple.com I decided I need to upgrade from my current configuration. From a white Macbook with Intel Core Duo 2GHZ, 13″ Glossy Widescreen, 1GB DDR2, 80GB hdd, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth to a Macbook Pro 17″.
Sure, I could sell the macbook with the cool second skin, exclusive crumpler bag and amazing mighty mouse to someone for around $1000 but why not give it away to someone for just $10? That’s right, I’m a nice guy. I will sell you my current macbook and a permanent link on one of my PR5 posts for just $10!

What’s the catch? - Well, because I’m such a nice guy, I’m making this offer not just to you but to 299 other people too. Problem is I only have one macbook, bag and mighty mouse to sell ![]()
You might have guessed; It’s a raffle. With just $10 you buy one of 300 tickets to win this fantastic laptop or Nintendo Wii.
Everytime one of you uses the Chipin widget in the sidebar and donates $10 or a multiple of that, I will note the email address on the paypal payment details. This will be your ticket for the raffle! I don’t think I can make it any simpler. To at least give you something concrete for your $10, I’ll give you a permanent linkback from one of my inner PageRank 5 posts. You can find the PR5 links here: http://www.johncow.com/links.txt
The raffle ends on the first of January 2008, or when I have sold all 300 tickets. If for some reason I don’t make the $3000 I need by January 1st, I will pick a random name and share all the money I made 50/50. How’s that for a great deal?
Needles to say, the sooner I sell the 300 tickets, the sooner you could be the lucky winner. So spread the word to your friends and family. Your chance is 1 in 300 to win back your $10×100! Oh, and don’t worry about the shipping costs. I’ll cover those, wordwide
Payment is only valid if done through the chipin widget on the sidebar!

Good idea, Bob. While I think Macs are basically Fisher-Price computers, I posted your contest on my little happy site for all to see.
Oh yeah, you forgot the space between “shipping” and “costs.”
My mom likes Macs, for some reason.

I’ve never been good at lucky draws.. That would make me really apprehensive to donate 10$..
June 25th, 2007 at 8:50 am
Good idea.

yeah “you’re such a nice guy” but you win 2000$ for an old mac book… For you it would be cool, but I won’t bet on that. I don’t even know if its safe !I didn’t wonder as I saw 0$ donate.
June 25th, 2007 at 10:21 am
J.D: Fisher-Price? I think a mac is more PC than a PC
Vijay, with that mentality you’d not win
Steph, you make it sound so negative
Is that how you talk to the shopkeeper where you buy your lotto tickets too ?
I’m offering my macbook for $10 and obviously you missed the humor in my nice guy post. As for the $0 donation, this raffle just started yesterday, what did you expect? Besides, with that $10 you get a permanent PR5 linkback which is worth way more than what ou have to pay.
And I don’t understand what you mean by safe. You can ask the winners of all my previous contests if I delivered what I promised.
June 25th, 2007 at 12:20 pm
The link back will be on a future blog post?
June 25th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Great idea. Just got a Mac and well worth it!
June 25th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Looks like I’m the first to “ChipIn” and have a go.
Good luck Bob, it’s a great idea.
June 25th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Text Generator: the linkback will be placed permanently on one of my existing pagerank 5 posts.
Steve, Thanks for being number 1! let me know what linkback you want

June 25th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Great idea Bob! you’re so creative with these things

I’ll write about this in my blog .. hopefully it’ll help you reach alittle bit towards your goal
June 26th, 2007 at 1:02 am
If STEPH does not like it, DON’T PAY! RIGHT?
BOB has the right idea and anyone is welcome - BE POSITIVE!
It is not an unique idea, but WHY NOT?
I have a MAC also, PC’s … and I would like the MAC BOOK, but I must DOWN-SIZE! So 4 now I can’t try, but I just left an email to my best friend, who can benefit from this idea.
ALSO, I have a computer club that I’ve started in 1984 and I’ll show this to all!
GO BOB GO!
Don’t let negative remarks (also freedom, but the OTHER SIDE) discourage you!
Tony
June 26th, 2007 at 6:38 am
Thanks Dee and Tony. How big is your computer club anyway Tony. Does it have 300 members ?

Okay, count me in Bob. That $20 I just gave you (which you’re putting in the kitty for this thing) gets me two tickets, right? Good. I like that. That just cut the odds against me in two….Don’t correct my math, I know it’s flawed but ignorance is bliss yadda yadda. Now, get back to work. Gilberticus

I might not be the best in math, Bob, but if I’m not mistaken, $10×1000 = 10.000$
I think you placed a 0 too much there. Or is your MacBook really worth 10k?
I might be willing to reconsider my decision not to participate in that case.
