WordPress 2.2 Upgrade
By admin | May 28, 2007
After waiting a few weeks to see what possible trouble would emerge on blogs that upgraded to version 2.2, I was finally convinced to do the upgrade for bobmeetsworld.com. So far so good but if anyone finds a bug, please let me know so I can try and fix it. (fyi: My posts aren’t considered as bugs)
It’s highly recommendable to upgrade if you are running any other version than WordPress 2.0.10 and WordPress 2.2 according to blogsecurity.com
Your wordpress is running fine, why should you upgrade?
Here it is: If you are not running [the current version]: upgrade today! Based on exploits already published, available and used on the web, all of the work you’ve put into your blog could be lost.
Right now a large number of people have the knowledge to:
1. Erase any/all of your posts or comments.
2. Replace your admin password with one of their own choosing.
3. Replace files on your system including index.php.
4. Run commands against your database.
5. Grab any file with a known file name from your directory - even php files - even those with your database password.
I have read several articles on this today and I suggest you upgrade asap. Remember that not only wordpress owners read these articles but also the people that might be interested in messing up your blog!

I’ve been putting this off for a while now. I think I’ll be doing some upgrading today.

Yes, there are some bad exploits out there. I moved to 2.2 and it’s a nice upgrade. However, the preview at the bottom of the post page has changed to a “Preview” link. Maybe I’m missing an option somewhere…

I must say that the Preview link is actually speeding up things for me. Guess it’s one of those things you’d need to get used to.

I’ve been procrastinating a smidge about updating, but I think I’m going to upgrade my locally installed versions of my sites today. If that goes well I’ll update the live versions.
Have you heard of any weirdness with plugins not playing nicely with 2.2?

I only noticed my Ultimate warrior tag cloud went missing and a post which got messed up.

I always delayed upgrading too. To do it right you backup all your files and your database first and uploading from windows is a pain. So I came up with a way to do all that automaticaly. I wrote an Easy WP Upgrade script that backs up your DB AND files so that you can do a full rollback. You can always find the lastest post about it at this link: http://www.thecodecave.com/easywpupgrade

Thanks Brian, I’m sure your script will prove very useful for a lot of people!
