Inter Milan secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Fiorentina in a Serie A clash on Friday, thanks to an excellent brace from captain Lautaro Martinez. The win sees Simone Inzaghi’s side extend their unbeaten run in the league to five games.
Martinez opened the scoring for Inter Milan in the 11th minute with a powerful header from a corner kick. The Argentine striker displayed his aerial prowess as he rose above the Fiorentina defenders to find the back of the net.
Fiorentina struggled to create clear-cut chances and their task became even more difficult when Inter Milan doubled their lead in the 34th minute. This time, it was Martinez again who found the back of the net, this time with a clinical finish from inside the box after a well-worked team move.
The home side continued to dominate proceedings in the second half and added a third goal in the 58th minute through Ivan Perisic. The Croatian winger unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box that left Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski with no chance.
Inter Milan completed the rout in the 69th minute when substitute Joaquin Correa scored his first goal for the club. The Argentine forward, who joined Inter Milan from Lazio in the summer, made an immediate impact by finishing off a swift counter-attack with a composed finish.
The victory sees Inter Milan maintain their position at the top of the Serie A table, with a four-point lead over second-placed AC Milan. Inzaghi’s side have now scored 15 goals in their last five league matches and are looking like strong contenders for the title.
On the other hand, Fiorentina’s struggles continue as they remain in the bottom half of the table. The loss extends their winless run to six games, putting pressure on manager Vincenzo Italiano to turn things around.
Inter Milan’s next challenge will be a tough away fixture against Napoli, while Fiorentina will look to bounce back when they face Genoa in their next league match.
