Raheem Sterling Expresses Displeasure Over England Axe
Raheem Sterling, the Manchester City and England football player, has voiced his dissatisfaction after being dropped from the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro. The decision was made by England manager Gareth Southgate following an altercation between Sterling and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez during a training session.
The incident occurred just days after Sterling and Gomez had faced off against each other in the highly anticipated Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool. The match ended in a 3-1 victory for Liverpool, but tensions seemed to have spilled over into the national team’s training camp.
Southgate addressed the situation by deciding to leave Sterling out of the squad for the Montenegro game. The England manager stated that he wanted to maintain discipline and unity within the team, emphasizing the importance of respect and a positive environment.
Sterling, who has been in excellent form for both Manchester City and England, took to social media to express his disappointment over the decision. In a post on his Instagram account, he admitted that emotions got the better of him but stressed that he and Gomez had already spoken and resolved the issue.
The 24-year-old forward acknowledged his responsibility as a role model and expressed his commitment to representing his country with pride. Sterling also thanked the fans for their support and assured them that he would give his all to bounce back stronger.
This incident adds another chapter to Sterling’s controversial history with the national team. In 2018, he publicly criticized the media for their portrayal of young black players, highlighting the negative impact it can have on their careers.
As for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier, England will be looking to secure their spot in the tournament with a win against Montenegro. The Three Lions currently sit at the top of Group A and are poised to qualify with a victory in their next game.
